Black Templar vs. Bork'An Sept (Tau) - Part 2

Mission:           Slay the Cultists
Deployment:    Dawn of War
Planet:              Gallesti
Black Templar vs. Bork’An Sept Tau – 1500 pts

 ----- +++ Early Morning +++ -----

Shas’O Yunt knew that the Tau had struck a decisive blow against the tanks of the enemy, but the Gue'ron'sha had held to their targets, opening fire upon the native population with deliberate focus.  Nearly a third had fallen in the initial fusillade!   To make matters worse, the nova reactor on Shas’El Wnib’s Riptide had malfunctioned critically, venting poisonous gasses directly into the cockpit and damaging the suit.

Using his jump jets to bound forward, he ordered his auxiliaries to close and engage the enemy, noting with grim satisfaction as they burst from the trees and charged towards the Gue’ron’sha at a run.  He and his squad of bodyguards drove towards their target, a boxy bipedal vehicle adorned with gold and covered in fluttering parchment, which was keeping pace with an enormous tank.  At close range they opened fire, swiftly causing damage to its crude mechanics and causing it to burst into consuming flames.  As the bipedal vehicle burned, the nearby tank swerved to a halt disgorging a large squad of the black and white clad figures led by a grim faced figure that could only be the Gue’ron’Shas’O himself, brandishing glowing sword in his hand.

Black Templar vs. Bork'An Sept (Tau) - Part 1

Mission:           Slay the Cultists
Deployment:    Dawn of War
Planet:             Gallesti
Black Templar vs. Bork’An Sept Tau – 1500 pts

Tau Mission Briefing:
Incoming Message to Tau Manta in high orbit, Ethereal’s Will:
Shas O’Yunt, for your eyes only.  Tau forward teams have been encountering unexpected difficulty navigating the heavily forested regions of the planet identified as “Gallesti” but the gue’la.  This has been identified as a significant strategic venerability in our efforts to gain territory on the planet.  Pathfinder teams have noticed that the gue’la inhabiting the area seem to have no such difficulty and it is theorized that they can provide intelligence to deploy our forces to maximum effect.

Her Ethereal Majesty Aun’Li Ta has respectfully requested that you enter the region to persuade several of the gue’la to join us.  Preliminary reports indicate that there may be opposition forces active in this area, so caution is recommended.  For the greater good!

Black Templar Mission Briefing:
Neophite:  My Lord Castellan, we have received reports from the surface of Gallesti that there seems to be a pernicious chaos threat that has begun to influence the natives.  Now that they have fallen under the influence of chaos they must be eliminated before the taint can spread any further.  It also seems that the foul Xenos “Tau” are attempting to communicate with those under the influence of chaos, to what end we cannot begin to speculate.

Lord Castellan:  This threat must be eliminated.  We will deploy a strike force to the surface to burn out this Chaos threat.  Should the Xenos take the field against us, they will be dealt with as well.  Proceed with caution, but our first priority is the elimination of those heretics!

Winning the Campaign

"How can I drink the tears of my enemy?"

Now that the campaign is in full swing, it is a good time to talk about how to win this thing.

Note: All the items described here are in the full rules linked on the right. So, you know, read them? Please? The Dice gods favor those who read rules.

The objective of both forces in the Timbra Incident Campaign is to capture the enemy capital city.

That is Tile G on Timbra Prime and Flint.

Now you can't just move onto that tile and capture it at any time, you have to get through the defenses and gates of the city. Those are the Capital Gate Tiles, Tile E on Timbra Prime and Tile F on Flint.

Death Guard vs Blood Angel Mercenaries

Below is the account of the battle between Death Guard and Blood Angel Mercenary forces in the Timbra Sector

The Pride and the Fall

The hinterlands of Timbra Prime have more in common with an ancient Terran woodcut showing pre-industrial countryside.  Rolling hills covered in vines, bramble intersected by a shallow creek; this would be a nice place to homestead and farm, perhaps raise a family.

Until man came to war upon the tranquil landscape. Post-human man.  Genetically modified killers beholden to desiccated psychic corpses and Gods of ruin bring devastation to tranquil places, one vicious blow at a time.

“Sergeant Lianas, hold position.” Chimed the astartes vox net within the helmet of veteran sergeant Calisto.  His sternguard combat team crouched in the open, fog obscuring their large forms.

“Surveillance servitors detected possible non-native life-forms, in this sector.  Global positioning indicated that if we establish a perimeter here, whatever is here will walk into our picket line.”  Brother Alessio informed the squad.  Unfortunately, the machine spirits were temperamental this day, despite the dedicated ministration of the tech-marines and serfs.

Dark Mechanicus vs Charnovokh Dynasty

Through dark machine powers, the Necrons missed window to attack. Instead a force of Tau was dispatched to check the advance of the Dark Mechanicus.

This is the game that didn't follow the rules. And then someone brought a Macro Cannon with a vindicator inside. Now that unnamed person, amazingly didn't announce much before the fight about the list. The battle was at 3k and the Tau brought some impressive firepower to tackle the two knights and waves of killer robots.

Blood Angels vs the 19th Brimlock Dragoons

Maelstrom of War 1500

This battle was fought between the Blood Angels and the 19th Brimlock Dragoons. Deployment was that normal one of 12" from the table edge and six objectives were laid out.

As the IG player, I will try to recount some of this from memory, here it goes

Blood angels went first and deploy two marine squads and a scout squad across their table edge. The guard deploys four tanks, two chimera, a wyvern and two veteran squads hiding in the ruins annoyed there wasn't enough points to put them in a nice warm tank.

Turn 1:

Blood angels go first and advance up the field with their warlord in a marine unit using a psychic power to jump upfield to grab an objective. Shooting wise, the scout backfield squad hits a veteran squad for a couple dead infantry.

The Imperial Guard opens up on the warlord lead unit of marines in cover. Even with cover, marines fall and the warlord is left to tank for the squad and he finally succumbs to the firepower.

Losing your Army

My Army Died and Now I Am Sad

Since a couple armies are facing an elimination battle in Turn 2, now is a good time to talk about what happens when your army is defeated.

Remember this chart from that time you read the rules easily linked on the right bar?

Force Level
Army Size
A
Standard, no special rules
B
Enemy can deploy 1 stratagem at the start of a battle.
C
Enemy can deploy 2 stratagems at the start of a battle.
D
Enemy can deploy 3 stratagems at the start of a battle. After deployment the enemy can nominate a single unit entry under 200 points to not participate in the battle. That unit is removed from the table. If that unit was a transport, the unit inside can be redeployed.

Unidentified energy readings reported on surface of the Timbra Prime Moon Base

"Tu-Buku, take two tac squads and investigate," came the order from command.

The tactical squads quickly formed a perimeter around the strange glowing object that was the focal point of their mission. Upon investigating closer, the object appeared to be a ring.

As Tu-Buku bent down to pick up the ring, a loud revving sound, and the flapping of wings came from all sides.

"To arms! Traitor scum approaching. Defend the ring at all cost. Call in for reinforcements. Send the Fireborn into battle." Commanded Tu-Buku over a crackling radio.

Tash'Var Sept vs Craftworld Yogan

Battle Report

Farseer Mutama made one last flyover of his defensive emplacements, ignoring the jetbikes of his guardian detail buzzing all around him. His left flank was anchored by distortion artillery and watched over by a towering Wraith Knight – a construct almost unknown to Yogan before… the incident. The commander felt his chest tighten as he watched an oversized contingent of Wraithguard file into their Wave Serpents on the right flank. Wraith Constructs in such numbers were an abomination, but with Yogan’s infinity circuit destabilized, warriors were actually requesting their spirit be assigned to these necromantic monstrosities when they died. It was a poor state of affairs for his beloved Craftworld, but it did make for an undeniably effective fighting force.

A brilliant beam of light sliced through the dusty clouds above just as it sliced through Farseer Mutamas brooding, and nearly removed one of his bunkers from existence. The Tau had arrived. Fire warriors flooded through the hills, and primitive, inelegant hovercraft leveled their equally primitive (yet sadly effective) rail guns and missiles at his entrenched troops. Most concerning to Mutama, however, was the tell-tale shimmer that heralded the arrival of the Tau’s new super-weapon – a Ghostkeel.
