My Army Died and Now I Am Sad
Since a couple armies are facing an elimination battle in Turn 2, now is a good time to talk about what happens when your army is defeated.
Remember this chart from that time you read the rules easily linked on the right bar?
Force Level
|
Army Size
|
A
|
Standard,
no special rules
|
B
|
Enemy can
deploy 1 stratagem at the start of a battle.
|
C
|
Enemy can
deploy 2 stratagems at the start of a battle.
|
D
|
Enemy can
deploy 3 stratagems at the start of a battle. After deployment the enemy can
nominate a single unit entry under 200 points to not participate in the
battle. That unit is removed from the table. If that unit was a transport,
the unit inside can be redeployed.

If your army is forced to drop lower then level D, that army is destroyed. Losing army levels is from being defeated in combat. Rules below:
Losing Armies
When an army loses a 40k battle:
- The army must be moved to an empty friendly tile in the same planet and will be lowered one level.
- If there are no friendly tiles left on the planet the army must be placed in an empty friendly tile in an adjacent planet and will be lowered two levels. Note it cannot use any space travel lanes which are affected by a warp storm this turn
- If there are no such tiles it will be considered destroyed.
There are a couple armies fighting at Level C facing a two level drop of defeat. Don't worry though, the armies will reassemble and regroup at the Fleets.
To reassemble your army, you must create three new lists for 200,1500, and 2500. Following the same rules as before, although with no experience from the defeated army carrying over. If you would like, you can certainly use your old lists too.
Once you have made your new army, it is set at Level B and is placed on the "Fleet" Tile during the Retreat moves. Note this is the only tile on the map that can have more then one friendly army on it, there is no limit.
At the start of the next turn, your army must regroup and can not move. That means if you are defeated, your army sits out one turn.
After that it can move across the space lanes, the Dotted and Solid color ones. There are restrictions however, armies must use the Solid space lane unless there are enemy armies on the homeworld, in that case, the Army must use the Dotted space lane.
That's it!
